403 Error on wordpress site

403 access example

I was having major issue with my word press site. There was no info on this anywhere. It took me 5 days of on and off research to find out what this issue was.

Step 1 was to see if the .htaccess file was the issue. There are about 100 different pages that answer how to diagnose if this is the problem.

Step 2 was to set permissions on all my directories as 755. and files to 644, to find out how to do this just google how to set file permissions through ftp.

I even went as far as deleting all my plugins. Thought this was going to work. It worked for a moment then my added pages didn’t work. So I keep looking.

Now my answer is pretty simple what your .htacess file looks like is this:

# BEGIN WordPress

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

# END WordPress

What you need to make your .htaccess file look like:
Options +FollowSymLinks
# BEGIN WordPress

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

# END WordPress

I was getting error: [Tue Jun 28 18:21:48 2011] [error] [client ::1] Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden:
